The waterfalls

The inspiration, process and beginnings of Barhdadi Jewelry...

Comprised of three distinct pieces, the Waterfall collection is Barhdadi Jewelry's first collection.

As its name suggests, this collection evokes a breathtaking universe where Mother Nature takes center stage, blending harmoniously with otherworldly jewelry.

This tribute to my childhood inspirations should be seen as an interpretation of one of the wonders of nature and a fantastic world that, even today, inspires many creations.

Its texture imitates the flow of water and the way it gently flows over the wearer's body. Through color and a modern touch, the pieces reflect these inspirations in a new light. The pieces, which required more than 35 hours of craftsmanship, have their individuality, while coming together to form a harmonious whole.

The pin:

Designed to captivate, this timeless headpiece is perfect for specific hairstyles. Secured without holding the hair in place, it serves only as an ornament, evoking the image of a waterfall pouring through the hair. Jade, symbolizing strength and power similar to that of a waterfall, and aquamarine, once considered the stone of mermaids and nymphs, are delicately joined together using a looping technique. These stones are left raw and imperfect, reminiscent of the soft stones shaped by the relentless flow of water over the decades.

Earcuffs:

Inspired by the flow of water from a waterfall, the pearls fall delicately over your chest and shoulders. The structure allows the earrings to sit on top of the ears, rather than being secured like traditional earrings.

Smaller, more delicate pearls are hung from the chains and arranged randomly to highlight the natural, nonchalant way the drops fall.

The necklace:

The necklace is the continuation and the final piece of the waterfall that flows down the body, starting from the head. Using the aquamarine, glass beads and jade present in the other pieces, the collection is transformed into a large waterfall. The jade symbolizes the water hitting the pile of rough stones represented by the large apatite stones.

The word "apatite" derives from the Greek word "apatao," meaning "to deceive." The various colors of this stone were once confused with other gemstones.

I chose apatite not only for its striking color, but also as a symbolic reference to how waterfalls often appear unexpectedly at the end of a river, creating an illusion of sudden emergence and beauty. This element of surprise mirrors the deceptive charm of apatite, making it a perfect choice.

To go further...

My designs and the exhibition represent the culmination of a six-month journey of growth. Nothing was planned; I started with a few jewelry concepts in mind and learned the metalworking process from scratch to bring them to life. This journey took me from my first visit to a jewelry store (where I took my first workshop), to making my very first ring, to completing the entire collection, and finally presenting it at my first exhibition.

The imperfect designs and stones symbolize my acceptance of the imperfections of my beginnings, reflecting my novice status. Like a river, I followed my instincts and let the process flow naturally, not knowing what was ahead.
